The Fly Fair 2010 programme

Driving down to the Fly Fair you will see the Fly Fair sign posted long before you arrive. At the Fly Fair venue you will be received by our traffic wardens (in Dutch ‘Verkeersregelaar’). Please follow their instructions because they are there for your safety.

We have arranged two cash points where admission tickets are for sale. At last, you will enter your fly fishing paradise. What to expect?

The Fly Fair village
At a first glance you will see many tents, large and small. Yes indeed you’re looking at the Fly Fair village. In the largest one, the commercial tent, you will find all our international booth keepers. They sell all that gorgeous stuff you were dreaming of.

Directly linked to the commercial tent is the fly tying tent, uniting 69 fly tiers under one roof in happy harmony. They came down from all over the world. This year we had so many offers of fly tiers wanting to demonstrate their skills (more than 80!) that we had to organize a morning and afternoon shift. So make sure you walk back to the fly tying tent every now and then.

When you continue your tour of the village, you will see the lecture tent. In this tent at certain times you will be able to attend very interesting lectures and workshops.
From time to time the lecture schedule will also be announced by our own Fly Fair voice.

When you have become hungry or thirsty you can visit the catering tent, with snacks and drinks galore and ... there’s a large terrace.

Next door to the catering tent there is the clubs tent. You will not only be able to get acquainted with the VNV (Dutch association of fly fishermen) but also with many other Dutch fly fishing clubs who will present themselves under the umbrella of the VNV. And the fly fishing club from Belgium (De Vlaamsche Vliegvisser) will also be present.

When leaving the clubs tent, you can see the Oase pavilion in the direction of the main entrance. Here you find excellent catering and a gorgeous terrace overlooking the Drontermeer. In the Oase pavilion the famous reel designer Ari ‘t Hart will exhibit his reels and, in addition to that, we have a number of paintings and ceramics on display.

On the beach of the Drontermeer, under the skilful supervision of Bas de Bruin, a host of international casters will show you their tricks. And, if you should want this, they can ‘take you apart’ and teach you what you always wanted to know about casting. The demo’s will be announced at regular intervals by the voice of the Fly Fair.

Thé ørgänizáziøn
In the pagode tent you’ll find thé ø. We are there to help you whenever we can. Thé ø will be dressed in dark blue shirts. Fly Fair could have never become what it is today without the help of many volunteers!!! Without any payment and in their own time they have helped to set up the Fly Fair village. Be kind to them will you?!

Auctions
During the Fly Fair 2010 we will have various auctions. As a favour to his widow, the legacy of one of our most famous writers Kees Ketting (RIP) will be auctioned. A complete list of the beautiful and exceptional tackle and books to be brought to the hammer will be available on this site soon.

Second hand
Under the wise leadership of Harry Kelly and friends you might hit a bargain here or try to sell your own. Be surprised.

Music and Fly Fair lunacy
There will be life music during the two days Fly Fair and you might also be surprised by one of our....

Fashion shows
Be surprised during one of our fashion shows!

Whisky tastings
This year again we will organize a couple of whisky tasting opportunities.

Ghillie service
Ghillie service will make its come back! Fly fishing on the Drontermeer with nymphs and dries can be very rewarding in May. Ghillies from the Kingfisher club, who know the waters very well, will take you to their own special spots where you can wade and try your luck. Be sure to bring your waders and a light flyrod (# 4 or 5) and try for roach, rudd, ide and even asp. There’s also heavy pike around! See the article on this kind of fishing somewhere on this site.

And your family?
Don’t leave them at home. For sure bring them with you. There will be bikes as well as canoes for hire. Two old sailing Botters - beautifull old and done up fishing boats – are available to take you sailing. Old historic towns like Zwolle, Kampen and Elburg, with beautiful shops, are around the corner.

Birds
A lot of birds will still be breeding this time of year, or they have youngsters. If you come across restless or nervous birds (and other animals) please leave the spot asap.

Security
The Fly Fair terrain is well secured during day and night.

If there is more you’ll hear from us soon!!
