Biografie: Bas de Bruin

Bas was born in Rotterdam, March 1958. He was infected by then fly-fishing virus during aBas de Bruin holiday in Sweden. His first attempt at fly-fishing was 2 years later in Norway, where he got his first casting lesson from a lorry driver in a parking place in the North of Norway and he caught his first fish, a tiny grayling, the day after. He went back home, totally hooked.

In a short time he learnt and practised a lot to improve on his sating-,fly-tying-, and fishing skills and became fly-casting champion of Holland.

At present he is an EFFA Master Instructor and a member of the EFFA Advisory Board, chairman of the recently founded Fly-fishing Club Voorne-Putten (FC-VP), chairman of the Dutch EFFA branch, a member the Dutch Association of Advanced Fly Tiers (DAAFT, but they are not daft at all) and a member of the Vision World Team.

Bas gives presentations about entomology, workshops on fly-casting techniques and tactics, and supplies information about fishing courses in Norway and Denmark (sea trout), at fly-fishing clubs in the Netherlands.

He also loves to demonstrate and teach fly-casting techniques at national and international fairs.

He is proud to be a member of the thé Ørgänizáziøn of the Fly Fair, and where he, for the second time, co-ordinates the casting programme and he is looking forward to seeing you and meeting you there!

Bas’ greatest pleasure is to witness someone catching his/her first fish on the fly during his course.
