Biografie: Guido Vinck I am 61 years old and started fishing at the age of 6 with my grandfather. Like every little boy in Belgium I start with pole fishing for roach and bream, but at that moment I was already attracted by fly fishing. Living in Flanders (no trout rivers) it was not easy the learn fly fishing, but with the help from a good friend (Marcel Parmentier,) who took me with him to the Ardennes, I pick-up very quickly ‘the art’ of fly fishing. When I was 18 I became member of the Royal Fly Casting Club in Brussels and start to improve my fly casting. I progressed so quickly that I became Belgian champion (for the first time) in 1972. Two years later I participated for the first time on the World Championships casting. Between 1974 and 1990 I became 7 X World champion and 1 X European champion (and won more than 250 international competitions). In 1981 I won the golden medal on the World Games in Santa Clara (California). In the meantime I continued fly fishing and became chief editor from the sport fishing magazine BEET Belgium in 1984. I fished all over the world except from South America (still a dream of me to fish in Patagonia). From that year on I start also to participate in Fly Fishing competitions and, until now, I took part on 5 X World Championships and 4 X on European Championships .I won a bronze medal on the World Championship in Ireland and won many top ten places in different championships. I won 5 X the Open European Grand Slam (with the Belgian team) and 2 x individual. Next to that I won more than 50 international fly fishing contests like the ‘Partridge’, 6 X ‘Les Internationaux de France’, 5 X ’International Friendship Marathon’ etc. I am Master Instructor for the EFFA (European Fly Fishing Association). In the early seventeen’s I did a lot of ‘pioneer’s work’ on fly fishing for pike in the polders of Holland an invented the famous pike fly, the ‘Piker’s point’. I have fished, interviewed and encountered a lot of well know people like Robert Redford (The river runs through it), Bjorn Borg, Eric Clapton, Nick Faldo, Mel Krieger, Steve Rajeff, Charles Ritz and all others well know fly fishermen around the world. My favourite fishes are grayling, rainbow and brown trout and black bass. Thev chalkstreams in Hampshire, mountain rivers in Austria, black bass in Morocco, the Snake in Yellowstone, reservoir fishing in Rutland, Grapham and Bewl Water, the Soca in Slovenia and the grayling rivers in Wales are my favourite fishing spots. Since the 1st of May 2010 I am an European pro-staffer for G.Loomis and a field tester for the Fulling Mill flies and hooks. The rest is history! |
