Biografie: Lawrence Finney Lawrence is one of only seven qualified APGAI-Ireland Instructors in fly dressing. Originally from
Long Eaton in Nottingham Lawrence has lived in Ireland for the past
forty years and has spent the last 35 of them fishing the rivers and
Loughs. His patterns are unique and 2010 saw the launch of his wire
woven flies that have proved so successful on the rivers as well as
the Loughs for trout and Salmon. My favourite pattern is the Dabbler this pattern has never let me down and there is so many variations that you can virtually guarantee it during the season Another style of fishing I most enjoy is traditional Lough style fishing, sometimes not suitable for those who are faint hearted especially when the Loughs blow up. I enjoy most styles of fly tying but traditional patterns are the ones I have the most enjoyment doing. My most memorable days fishing was fishing my local river Lagan in May and catching a wild brown trout nearly 5lbs in weight in a size 16 black gnat, the only other time I was so excited was catching a 9lb Springer on Lough Melvin on a size 12 green peter. My most prized piece of fishing equipment is my Hardy Pope split cane rod that I keep in my loft with all my other antique fishing gear My most prized fly tying equipment is my Velcro brush as I found out many years ago that to bring a Lough fly to life you need to blend the body furs and this has kept me in good stead. I have a variety of fishing equipment and I find it hard to justify changing rods and reels just for the sake of keeping up with the times as my sclera XDA rod and greys rod has worked well for me over the past 6 years I will be tying up several patterns from traditional Irish Lough flies to me new unique wire woven patterns Any one wishing to learn how to do the wire woven flies will be more than welcome to take part To find out more of Lawrence and his fantastic Irish flies visit his web site www.finneysflies.com |
