"dialezing : Irish seatrout"
In 2009, together with Ken Whelan and James Sadler, Chris
was commissioned to complete a new book for the Medlar Press
(UK) on Irish sea-trout (Irish sea-trout: Nomads of the
Tides, projected publication 2013). The work examines not
only different forms of angling for sea-trout but also the
complex and intricate biology of the fish. We also look in
detail at the history of fishing for what until recently was
always known in Ireland as the ‘white trout’.
Chris has fished for sea-trout all over Ireland since 1973,
and has fished twice a year on the Danish coasts for
sea-trout since 1995. This illustrated talk largely concerns
• fly-fishing
for sea-trout in estuarial and coastal waters
• tactics and
fly patterns
• seasonal
movements of the fish into and out of salt- (or brackish)
water
• natural
prey of the sea-trout in saltwater
Chris is well-known as an angling author (Fly-fishing: A
Book of Words 1993; The Other Side of the Stream 1996; (as
editor) Ad Swier, Passion for Pike 2006; Sketches with
Fishing Rods 2008; Fishing and Pike Lures 2009; Outside:
Fishing, Writing and Living by the Wadden Sea [forthcoming
2011]) and for his many contributions to UK journals such as
Trout and Salmon and Waterlog and (since 2007) to De Roofvis
in the Netherlands. His remaining angling ambitions include
catching a double-figure sea-trout, a 30lb pike and a
sailfish – all on the fly-rod (though not on the same
fly-rod… (This talk will be given in English.) |
